A Ramallah niente River of Babylon per i Boney M
Già di suo che i Boney M girino ancora il mondo a fare concerti è una notizia, secondo me.
Ma non è per questo che ne scrivo; lo faccio perchè in occasione di un concerto al Festival internazionale palestinese di Ramallah, in Cisgiordania, che si terrà il prossimo fine settimana e dove sono ospiti d’onore, ai Re della disco anni ’70 è stato chiesto dagli organizzatori di evitare Rivers of Babilon.
Il testo di Rivers of Babylon infatti è il Salmo 137 della Bibbia (nella versione della Bibbia di Re Giacomo) e tratta dell’esilio del popolo ebraico a Babilonia, dopo la conquista di Gerusalemme nel 586 a.C.
Pare che la parte incriminata sia “We wept when we remembered Zion” che tradotto significa piangiamo (versiamo lacrime) quando ricordiamo Sion.
Quella dei Boney M è una cover, l’originale è uno spiritual scritta nel 1970 da Brent Dowe e Trevor McNaughton, componenti del gruppo giamaicano dei Melodians.
