Wonderful World è un brano soul scritto alla fine del 1950 dal cantante soul Sam Cooke insieme a Lou Adler e Herb Alpert.
Inizialmente registrata da Cooke nel 1959 per il suo album del 1960, The Wonderful World of Sam Cooke, la canzone è stata pubblicata come singolo nella primavera del 1960, raggiungendo il 12° posto in classifica negli Stati Uniti e 27° nel Regno Unito. Di un certo successo anche la cover che gli Herman’s Hermits ne hanno fatto verso la metà degli anni ’60. Versione questa inserita nella posizione numero 373 della Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
E’ stata utilizzata nelle colonne sonore dei film Animal House nel 1978, Breathless nel 1983 e nei titoli di testa di Hitch nel 2005.
What a wonderful world this would be è una dichiarazione d’amore di un giovane ad una ragazza. Il testo è molto semplice, in sostanza lui dice di non essere un bravo studente ma di sapere di amarla e che lei lo ricambiasse sarebbe un mondo meraviglioso. Dice anche di provarci ad essere più bravo, perché così forse potrebbe conquistare il suo amore.
