The Man Comes Around è la title track di American IV: The Man Comes Around, l’album di Johnny Cash pubblicato nel 2002.
La canzone in realtà fu scritta qualche anno prima ma Cash la aggiornò per il disco. Sia cantato che parlato, il brano contiene numerosi riferimenti biblici, soprattutto sul Libro della Rivelazione. Fu ispirata da un sogno che lui fece sulla regina Elisabetta II.
The Man Comes Around è stata utilizzata nelle colonne sonore di diversi film e serie tv: Nel 2008 nella scena finale di Terminator, The Sarah Connor Chronicles; nella scena finale di Generation Kill; come sigla iniziale e finale del film Linewatch; nella sequenza iniziale dell’episodio 16 della terza stagione di Criminal Minds, Elephant’s Memory – Memoria da elefante.
Nel 2009 nel decimo episodio della decima stagione di CSI “Better Off Dead”.
Nel 2012 nella colonna sonora del film Killing Them Softly.
Nel 2013 nella puntata pilota della serie Sleepy Hollow.
Nel 2014 nell’episodio 11 della prima stagione di The Blacklist.
