You’re so vain è una canzone di Carly Simon pubblicata il 2 dicembre 1972 ed inserita nel suo terzo album intitolato No Secrets.
Il significato
In You’re so vain una donna descrive gli atteggiamenti vanitosi di un suo ex ma per non dargli soddisfazione chiude il ritornello dicendo che questa canzone non è dedicata proprio a lui. Parla di un uomo ricco, di successo, ma dandone una connotazione fortemente negativa: entra alla festa su uno yacht e come fosse desiderato da tutte le ragazze presenti. Dice infine che ora probabilmente si trova insieme alla moglie del suo migliore amico.
La canzone compare nel secondo episodio della quinta stagione della serie televisiva 30 Rock, episodio intitolato “When It Rains It Pours” e girato nel 2010 e nella colonna sonora del film del 2003 Come farsi lasciare in 10 giorni.
