Il 7 agosto 2026, alle 13 ora coreana, gli Stray Kids hanno pubblicato “THIS & THAT”, il loro decimo mini album, segnando il primo ritorno discografico completo a distanza di circa nove mesi dal progetto “DO IT” (SKZ IT TAPE), che lo scorso novembre aveva conquistato otto settimane consecutive al primo posto della Billboard 200 statunitense. Il progetto, annunciato lo scorso giugno tramite un video teaser, è stato anticipato dal pre-release “Run It”, uscito il 24 giugno.
Il brano: un hip-hop più rilassato del solito
La title track “This & That” abbandona in parte l’energia esplosiva che ha reso celebri brani come “God’s Menu” o “MANIAC”, puntando invece su un’anima hip-hop più morbida, con groove languidi e melodie definite dalla stampa coreana “addictive” pur restando rilassate. Il pezzo esplora liricamente la libertà di scelta, restituendo la sicurezza dei membri nel poter fare ciò che desiderano. Come da tradizione del gruppo, il brano porta la firma di 3RACHA — il collettivo di produzione interno composto da Bang Chan, Changbin ed Han — che dal debutto ha sempre contribuito attivamente alla scrittura e composizione di ogni pubblicazione della band.
Lo stesso Changbin ha spiegato la scelta stilistica sottolineando come stavolta il gruppo abbia virato verso un suono più easy e accessibile, eliminando alcune asperità sonore più caratteristiche dei lavori precedenti.
Un mini album coeso e vario
Il progetto conta otto tracce, tutte scritte e prodotte da 3RACHA: si va da “Run It”, che fonde ottoni maestosi a ritmiche world beat, a “After You”, house progressiva che racconta il momento del colpo di fulmine, fino a “Farming”, ispirata in chiave ironica alle meccaniche dei videogiochi gestionali. Non mancano “I Do”, venatura rock e ritornelli orecchiabili, “Way Out”, hip-hop acustico dai toni malinconici post-rottura, e “That Day”, brano dal sapore band-oriented che evoca ricordi di tarda estate. Chiude il pacchetto una “Festival Version” della title track, pensata per trasformare il brano in un momento corale da vivere dal vivo.
Il contesto: promozione e celebrazioni
Per accompagnare l’uscita, JYP Entertainment ha organizzato un pop-up store attivo dall’8 al 20 agosto, mentre nella serata del lancio la Namsan Seoul Tower si è illuminata in un evento speciale dedicato all’album. Il gruppo ha inoltre presentato il progetto in conferenza stampa a Seoul il 6 agosto, apparendo in abiti coordinati per raccontare il processo creativo dietro “THIS & THAT”.
Con questo ritorno, gli Stray Kids confermano ancora una volta la propria identità di gruppo autoprodotto, capace di reinventarsi senza tradire la propria firma sonora.
