Nonostante la prima vesione ad essere pubblicata sia quella Brenda Lee, estate del 1972, Always on My Mind è una canzone composta per Elvis Presley che la pubblicò nel novembre dello stesso anno. Gli autori sono Mark James, Wayne Carson e Johnny Christopher.

In quel periodo Elvis era in rotta con la moglie Priscilla – divorzieranno ufficialmente circa un anno più tardi – e il brano calzava a pennello per lui.

Dopo il divorzio, durante un concerto a Las Vegas dove era presente la ormai ex moglie, richiamando la di lei attenzione, Elvis espresse con il labiale: “Questa è dedicata a te“.
